ERROR. Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery in Kies and try again

imagesYou will need Odin version 1.85 to be able to recognize your phone, and the firmware for your model/carrier.

Odin can be downloaded here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta…3&d=1304094576

  1. On your PC, right-click the Odin 1.85.exe and select Run As Administrator.
  2. Completely power off your phone.
  3. While holding the Volume Down button, press and hold the Power Button and the Home button as well until the phone reboots to your Download Screen.
  4. A screen will appear asking you to confirm your decision to enter Download Mode. Press Volume Up to confirm. (If you change your mind, press and hold just the Power Button and the phone will exit Download Mode and reboot normally.)
  5. Plug your phone into your computer with the factory supplied USB cable. It may try to install some drivers. If it does let it finish completely.
  6. Odin will recognize your phone which is indicated by the top-left box in Odin turning yellow and ID COM displaying some numbers.
  7. If this doesn’t happen then start over from the beginning.
  8. On the bottom right hand side of Odin select the PDA button.
  9. Navigate to the Unzipped file that you downloaded earlier. Select it.
  10. Press the Start button in Odin and let the phone reboot on its own. Do not unplug your phone until it has rebooted or you risk hard bricking it.
  11. Let the phone completely reboot. It may take a minute or two.
  12. Once it reboots (it can take a couple of minutes and might get stuck on the boot screen) press and hold Volume Up+Home+Power Button until you are booted into the recovery screen.
  13. Select factory wipe and reboot the phone.

      • Brent Hoods says:

Can you still get into download mode (power..vol down..home key combo)?…if you can, all is not lost…
        As for Odin…..
        1) Make sure Kies is NOT running….use laptops task manager to kill it lf it is
        2) disable any firewalls
        3) open Odin as an administrator
        4) use the usb cable that came with your phone….don’t rely on just one usb port…try them all…
        5) put your phone in download mode and connect to laptop via usb….
        6) wait for com box in odin screen to change colour and begin (following any/all instructions given TO THE LETTER)
        7) leave the option to repartition WELL ALONE

        …..And…..

8)……DO NOT play with .pit files unless you have ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER CHOICE…..

I have a Galaxy S3. Three days ago started failing (the movile is only 4 months old, so, it had no really reason) and came in the screen sometimes that I should download the upgrade. I tried with the mobile, but it did nothing but got my mobile stuck in that while. Then I tried with Kies, and just the whole thing got F…p. After long hours of being in the screen of “… and try with Kies again”, like everybody. And I tried thousands times with no success, until I manages to get the information of pressing those 3 buttoms at the same time, and then now, since another couple of hours, it is with the screen of “downloading, do not turn off target”, but does nothing. Of course it is plugged in the PC, with the Odin 3 v1.85, but the Oding also does nothing. I tried with the PDA, and to put that file of the zipped Odin, but when clicking on it, it does not appear, even that it is in the desktop, but it is not recognized by the PDA. So, what can I do now?

    Thank you very much
